Wonderful for young children ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I bought this book to give to my nieces on the first anniversary of their father's untimely passing. (Ages 1yr, 3yr, 10yr)

We met at the cemetery and had a lovely moment together sitting with their Daddy reading this book. We all cried, grieved, loved, and hugged. It was a wonderful tool to openly talk about these tough feelings together.

Excellent book for young children ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I bought this book for my grandson who is five, at the death of his grandfather. It does a great job of keeping Grandpa’s memory alive.

In the story, a little turtle is left believing his grandpa is with him by watching him from a cloud above.

A great resource for children experiencing grief ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is a great book to help not only help children grieve with the loss of a father, but it helps the parent out as well. Kim gives many good tips to the remaining parent on how to guide their child through the grieving process. It is written in a way that is easy for kids to understand their feelings better, and I think would be super relatable for them. It lets kids know that it is okay to cry, and to also experience joy without feeling guilty. Children experience grief just like adults do but in different ways. Reading this with your child will be a great comfort to them 100%.

It was a perfect addition to a basket I had made for my great-grandson, who will be born this month.

My son passed away at 39 in 2008, this will be his first grandchild. I made a basket that included my son's blanket from when he was a baby, a picture of him for the baby’s room, and a few other things.

Heaven sent ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My niece and Nephew recently lost their mom. Being young as they are they’re questioning things and not fully understanding. When I stumbled upon this book, thanks to an ad on Facebook, I knew I had to get it. When I received it in the mail I skimmed through and cried. It was absolutely perfect for them and really let the child reading it know, it’s okay to have sad days.

Vesey has written a read-aloud book for young children for use by parents or other adults who seek to support a child in grief following mother’s death. It is the first of a projected series to also include the death of a father, of grandparents, and of siblings. The lead character is a turtle whose life drastically changes when his mother becomes ill and dies. It includes touching and interesting illustrations by Amy Gantt that will encourage interactions between a young child and the reading adult, in addition to the read-aloud words. Vesey is experienced in the field of dying and grief by both personal losses and decades of service as a hospice nurse. Her book reflects her authentic religious faith and includes use of prayer and church attendance at Easter to bring comfort. Vesey provides many ideas for adults to supplement reading with activities to process grief and create tangible and enduring memories. This book will touch the imagination of children and be a useful resource for many families.

SUCH A BLESSING ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book is such a blessing to my 6-year-old, who very recently lost her grandfather. They were very close and it has been hard on everyone.

It has easy-to-understand text and beautiful illustrations. In the beginning, there are tips for the parents on using the book with their child, and at the end of the book, there are suggestions for remembering your loved one throughout the year. This book quickly became a tool for our grief.

VESEY has expanded upon her earlier book “What Cloud Is My Mommy In?” (2019) to a series, including other common losses, such as daddy, grandma, grandpa, brother, sister, and pet. Each is a read-aloud book for young children to be used by parents and other adults to support a grieving child following the death. The sister version, as well as the other books in the series, feature engagingly illustrated turtle characters whose lives have been changed by a primary loss. The odd-numbered pages in the Sister version include a question for the adult reader to further engage the child in sharing their unique feelings and perspectives. The “introduction” and the “additional information and ideas” pages offer helpful perspectives for the adults using these resources. Vesey’s experience as a hospice nurse, her many personal losses, and her deep, religious faith, enable her to offer these books that can bring deep comfort to children.
