Family Life

Hospice care is only a small slice of Kim’s journey in life. Beyond the many losses faced in her professional background, Kim has navigated significant personal ones as well. A challenging loss was the passing of her beloved husband, Les, in 2006. He was only 49 years old. Kim and Les had just gone on a cruise where she surprised Les with a ceremony to renew the couple’s wedding vows. Within four months of his cancer diagnosis, Kim found herself raising two teenage children, Patrick and Sarah, alone.

Kim’s young adult daughter, Sarah, suffered an asthma attack in 2017. She lapsed into a coma and never came back. Sadly, Kim lost not only her daughter but her unborn second grandchild that Sarah was carrying. Kim’s daughter and her surviving grandson both have inspirational roles in the launch of My Hope Path.

In 2022, Kim endured the loss of her mother who was an avid gardener, and hospital and hospice volunteer. Her mother was placed in hospice’s care shortly before she passed. Kim was at her bedside as she took her final breath. Her mother was a member of Ohio Sportsmen and the Ohio Wildlife Federation, and was honored in 2008 with their Distinguished Award for Outstanding Service.

What Cloud Children's Books

Kim is also a very gifted author. Following the loss of her daughter, Kim’s grandson inspired her to write a series of seven children’s books on grief, starting with “What Cloud Is My Mommy In?” The books support grieving children and adults alike. The series addresses various familial losses, offering a gentle exploration of grief throughout the first year, with a focus on holidays and special occasions. In addition to What Cloud books, Kim offers comfort items such as “touchstone turtles,” “warmie turtles,” and sympathy cards for grieving children and their families.
